the area
Estancias in Magallanes, which are large cattle ranches, originated from the arrival of English companies that owned vast tracts of land. These companies established “stations” to manage their estates, and this English term was eventually adopted into the Spanish language as “Estancia”. The first constructions, like those at Estancia near the ocean, date back to 1916.
These generation of settlers and their hard work and passion for their land, has inherited big portions of valleys and historical buildings that are the perfect scenarios for the new travelers and explore unique and private areas.
LODGE
In the early 1900 the Rubens valley, because of its abundant forest, was one of the main logging camps of the región, the main road of the region was built and the new real working Estancias were the main source of jobs, in those years. All come together when the one of the old families of the region decided to build a restaurant house right near the river and the best stop in the side of the road. Almost 100 years had been until now, when the family decided to renovate this building, keeping the same old European architecture, and maintain one of the best coffee stop and restaurant in the way. The new add to this Project was turned the original second floor of the house into 8 private bathroom bedrooms, all from 10 sqm (107 sqf) up to 15 sqm( 162sqf). All this connected with the main restaurant, open fire chimney, resting area and 350 acres backyard where lead you to the main trail that take you to the river side or hiking trials. Also, inside the restaurant there is a quincho (Barbecue area), window wall where you can enjoy watching while a typical lamb is been roasted. Staying at this place, really feels like being deep in the time, a place surrounded by historical real working Estancias, the whole atmosphere is like when Patagonian settlers started their road thru Patagonia.
8 Rooms (Habitacion) all private bathroom. The new add to this Project was turned the original second floor of the house into 8 private bathroom bedrooms, all from 10 sqm (107 sqf) up to 15 sqm( 162sqf). The unite space we have in this renovated house, we found it better to give the clients the option- If they prefer one room for them self or they can also stay in couples in one room with king size beds. Maximum capacity for this program is 8 anglers or 10 non anglers.
THE FISHING
The most iconic and typical trout water are in the area you will find it here. Soft current, pools, riffles, grass banks trees and logs that makes the perfect spots for trout. Wade fishing in streams, spring creeks and ponds is like the most common itinerary, when the bigger rivers are in a good level of water, surely we recommend to do a float trip out of our rafts and experience some of the less fished water in the valley. These valleys are so vast, that every week we are always looking for new water to fish. Most fish we go for are Resident Brown trout, now we do have the opportunity to catch Book trout in some of the spring creeks and few rainbows in some creeks. Since our rivers are, connected with the Atlantic ocean and others to the Pacific coast, we have sea run brown trout moving into our system every season and the best time to visit for them is the March and first 2 weeks of April. For our resident trout we expect to catch fish from 14 inches to over 24 inches. Trout here are unpressured and usually willing to eat a fly. During the summer months, you can fish a variety of dry flies on almost every piece of water in the region. During the Chilean spring and fall seasons, you can expect to do well with nymphs and streamers.
